Economic Atheist
Life Group Discussion Guide
January 2014

Here’s the description of this month’s message series:

Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. (Malachi 3:10b, NIV)

Did you know the Bible speaks to how we handle our money more than to any other topic? That’s because the way we view and use money is directly related to our spiritual vitality.

In this series, our discussion will go far beyond money and what our thoughts about money are—we’ll focus on our relationship to God and his relevance in our lives. As we journey, we’ll discover that the teaching of Scripture on how we understand God in relationship to our resources impacts every aspect of life. More than that, what God teaches about money is directly relevant to how we all relate to God and to each other.

This is not a series about giving, but bout living. Not a series about tithing, but about obedience and what it means find freedom in all areas of life. You won’t want to miss out on our discussion as we ask, “Am I an economic atheist?” Along the way, we’ll learn to follow God not only in his ethics, but also in his economics.

What Scripture from the series’s messages has God been brining to mind? How has this been encouraging? Convicting? Perspective-changing?
What specific aspect of our financial lives was discussed this week? How did this resonate with you? What about this discussion was especially challenging or uncomfortable?
What thoughts or ideas from the messages have stuck out to you the most?
Have you ever experienced him renovating aspects of your life? How would you explain that process to others? What are the best parts of this renovation? The hardest?

How has God shown you in fresh ways that the way we handle our resources is directly related to our relationship with Him?
Based on what you’ve heard and discussed, what do you think God is calling you to do or become...
...as an individual?
...as part of community (family, workplace, neighborhood, etc.)?

...as a local church?

What does it look like to start taking action on these things?
How can your Group pray for you as you do this?
